Newscheck Comedy Writing Competition – Terms and Conditions
1. Overview
The Newscheck Comedy Writing Competition (the “Competition”) is run by Newscheck LTD, hereinafter referred to as “the Organiser.” By entering the Competition, participants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
2. Eligibility
2.1. The Competition is open to individuals aged 18 years and above at the time of entry.
2.2. Employees of Newscheck LTD, its affiliates, or subsidiaries, and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter.
2.3. Multiple entries are permitted, but each must be a unique work.
3. Entry Guidelines
3.1. Entries must be original, comedic scripts, sketches, podcasts or other written materials.
3.2. All submissions must be in Irish or English.
3.3. The content should align with Newscheck LTD’s standards and policies. Submissions containing overtly offensive, defamatory, or otherwise inappropriate content may be disqualified at the discretion of the Organiser.
3.4. Entry to the Competition is €25 ex VAT.
4. Submission Process
4.1. Entries must be submitted through the online submission portal on https://newscheckcomedy.com/competition , THE PORTAL or as specified on the Competition’s official announcement page.
4.2. All entries must be submitted by the deadline listed on the Competition website. Late submissions will not be accepted.
4.3. Once submitted, entries cannot be modified or replaced.
4.4 Once submissions of 200 are reached the portal will closed. The portal may remain open should they exceed 200 submissions at the sole discretion of The Organiser.
4.5 Submission deadline extensions are at the sole discretion of The Organiser.
5. Judging and Selection
5.1. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Organiser.
5.2. Judging will be based on originality, creativity, and comedic value.
5.3. The decision of the judging panel is final and not subject to appeal.
5.4 Discussions with The Organiser for feedback may be offered at the sole discretion of The Organiser
6. Prizes
6.1. The prize for the Competition will be as stated on the Competition’s official announcement page.
6.2 The prize of €5,000 of services means that €5000 of production services are provided by The Organiser to exploit of the winning submission by means of a Pilot Programme
6.3. Prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.
6.4. The Organiser reserves the right to modify or substitute prizes if necessary.
6.5 The winning submission’s content will be hosted on watch.newscheckcomedy.com after publication
6.6 Material from the publication will also be promoted on social media with crediting to winning entrant.
7. Intellectual Property and Rights
7.1. By submitting an entry, the participant warrants that their submission is original and does not infringe upon any copyright or intellectual property rights.
7.2. The participant grants Newscheck LTD a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use, publish, and promote their submission, with credit to the author.
7.3. Participants retain ownership of their work but agree to allow Newscheck LTD exclusive rights of publication for their Exploit of the material.
8. Publicity
8.1. By entering, participants consent to Newscheck LTD’s use of their name, likeness, and entry for promotional purposes without additional compensation.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1. Newscheck LTD will not be responsible for any late, lost, misdirected, or incomplete entries due to technical or human error.
9.2. Participants agree to release and hold harmless Newscheck LTD from any liability, loss, or damage arising out of their participation in the Competition.
10. Privacy
10.1. Newscheck LTD will collect personal information solely for the purposes of administering the Competition.
10.2. Personal data will be handled according to Newscheck LTD’s Privacy Policy.
11. Amendments
11.1. The Organiser reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Updates will be posted on the official Competition webpage.
12. Governing Law
12.1. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ireland
12.2. Any disputes arising from the Competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of The Republic of Ireland
